Hunstanton

Old Hunstanton is the only west-facing village along the entire east coast, making it the perfect spot to watch the sun’s captivating descent. As the evening unfolds, the waves shimmer with a golden glow, each moment more mesmerising than the last — a true postcard-perfect scene.

Local Features

Red-and-white striped cliffs, sunlit rock pools, and carrstone cottages gazing out over the sea — Old Hunstanton is the kind of place that feels effortlessly unique. Its charm lies in the little details: centuries-old footpaths that weave through the village, the soft hum of the waves, and, of course, those breathtaking sunsets that scatter gold across the water. That’s the magic ingredient.

It’s the perfect spot for the free-spirited. Stroll along the sandy beaches lined with pastel beach huts, explore rugged rock formations that cradle an old shipwreck, or tuck into crispy fish and chips at a seaside shop. Charming coffee stops, peaceful gardens, winding trails, and even its own lighthouse — in Sunny Hunny’s old town, adventure is never more than a few steps away.

the history of hunstanton

Old Hunstanton’s history is unlike anywhere else in North Norfolk — a story that stretches back to around 1500 BC, when it was a Neolithic settlement. But that’s just the beginning. This coastal village is steeped in legends of swashbuckling pirates and cunning smugglers, with its past etched into the very landscape. The ruins of St Edmund’s Chapel, dating back to 1272, stand as a quiet reminder of centuries gone by, while the lighthouse, first established in 1666, still keeps watch over the shore. And those striking, multicoloured cliffs – They’re rich with fossils that have been around for millions of years.

Whatever chapter of history captures your imagination, Old Hunstanton has a story waiting to be discovered.
